Just last week, I wrote about Live Writer as the essential tool for blogging.

I noticed that, some of our new hosted wordpress themes started using custom fields such as Thumbnails or big_post and etc – so how do we post these values to our blog with live writer?

This is where the live writer’s plugins system comes into play

To enable this plugin first, you need to download it from here. Copy the file to folder resides in C: > Program Files > Windows Live > Writer > Plugins. Then, restart Windows Live Writer.

Then, post something to the blog, you should be getting a prompt like this. After hitting yes, wait for a while and it will try to connect to your blog and prompt for another password dialog.

Click yes, you should be getting a new set of dialog box appearing.

You can add new key like Thumbnail to the custom field tab above, to assign the values.

For me I added Thumbnail and et_bigpost field as the values.

I remember my days of churning contents to be placed in a product like photo displayer especially, when creating online interactive flash application for various product. Renaming products into a special naming convention with preferred prefix and suffix is always good practice.

However, if you are in a hurry and have hundreds of images to rename, that can be a problem. Luckily I’ve discovered this cool freeware that will solved all our problem. ReNamer, like the name of the tool said, is very easy to use and particularly useful when you have to rename a large number of files. The user interface is designed using the traditional computer model for input > process > output. You can have a wizard guiding you on how and what to rename or you can simply go advance mode by using those regular expression like syntax to perform more complex renaming functions.

Having problems with damaged disc or files stored in some old scratched cd, dvd, even blue ray disc? Suxs isn’t. Well don’t just throw the disc away though – because there might be a chance, that you will be able to salvage the files stored in the disc!

Sometimes, when you transfer a bunch of folders with pictures on it ; you will notice a bunch of space wasting Thumb.db – This is of course thanks to Windows XP default images thumbnail database. These db files does eat up space and is useless if you are in other operating system or web server. Best way is  to get rid of it. During the weekends, I was asked to transfer a website to another domain hosting. I found out I was downloading a bunch of these useless thumb.db. This is so mind numbing. Ahhh well time for some clean up!

I found out this cool tool which does just that, cleaning up mess lol. Just assign folder with all the image crap inside. Run this mini tool. (does not require installation) .Click Search once, it’s done search simply click clean!

To get this software, you will need at least DotNet Framework 2.0 installed, if you have Windows Vista you can straight away double click and fire away.

Presenting “Virtual Clone Drive”. Yet another post on handy software which allows you to mount an ISO file to a virtual drive excluding malware, rootkit stuff and adwares. Yup, just plain simple freeware that does that.

This tool will be useful for those that like to create images of the DVD/CD and stored them as ISO files (backup purposes). These ISO files are made by software like imgburn / nero burning rom and etc. Originally, ISO files are made to be used as source disk reference for DVD/CD burning software.

With Virtual Clone Drive installed all your ISO files will be somewhat executable, simply double click on em, and the software will then mount a virtual drive that emulate exactly like the original DVD. Quite useful for those whom prefer simple drive mounting to checkout contents in ISO files.
