Just last month, I was rushing to compile my favourite 80′s song and later I noticed all the albums does not have an album art for it. How do I create a generic album art? Simple – there’s actually a lot of sample album art inside your iTunes installation folder. All you need to do is to browse the folder called X:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.Resources (Where X is the drive you installed your iTunes into) and take a look at the sample of graphical generic album art you get.

To fit the album art into your compilation, first start iTunes and open up your playlist. Shift click and select all the songs you wanted to compiled as one album under one album art for e.g. My Classical Collection 2008. Simply edit one of the selected album in the playlist (while songs are selected, rename just one and all the selected file album will be renamed accordingly). Next you may want to assign an album art for it by dragging images from the folder which I’ve mentioned to the album artwork section in ITunes located at the left hand corner.

One of the features that I like about the new Firmware is the screencapture feature. You can actually screencapture any application or screen (cept for the slide on unlock screen). To screen capture tap sleep and home button simultaneously, if you do it correctly you can see a flash on a screen.

The captured screenies will be inside the photo icon under Saved Photos.

How to you extract the photos?

An autoplay prompt will appear automatically once, you connect the dock usb cable. It will look like as if the OS detected a digital camera and prompt for import of picture.

If you have any saved photos saved in IPOD Touch, you may import it into a folder in your OS.

Here are some of the screenies of my favourite IPOD Touch Apps

MoonLight Mahjong Lite (I’ve Finished It – Highly recommended)

Favourite of all time - Bubble Bash! (I’ve Finished It – Highly recommended)

Ahhh classic port over to IPOD Touch – Bomberman!

Sol FREE – Good old solitaire and it’s Free (I’ve Finished It – Highly recommended)

Sega’s Monkey Ball – Great Graphics but I think the controls need tweaking (Accelerometer is way too sensitive for some levels)

For those thinking of buying IPOD Touch, here 12 cool subtle things you should know when you get this fantastic device. I call it subtle because – it is a kind of user experience thingy.

IPOD Touch Backlight - Bright enough to lit your way in dark areas. If you have firmware 2.0 upgrade with flashlight app you will know what I mean. The keys input pad itself are made within the touch screen – you basically don’t need to find your way through in the dark.

To switch to quick music mode – double tap on home key. You can do this while your IPOD is on lock mode. I find this feature very very useful.

The song pauses automatically, when you pull off the earphone jack – allowing you to resume back the music when you plug it back.

Smooth fade out when you are about to sync with ITunes. Well at least you don’t an annoying windows prompt when you are working with IPOD.

There’s lots of application you can get in AppStore. For those who are hesitating in upgrade – PLEASE DO It’s WORTH IT. To switch off an Application, hold home button for 7 seconds. To reboot in case of bug crash or hangs - hold home and sleep button together for a few seconds.

To perform a system switch off – hold sleep button for few seconds – a slider will appear to switch off. To turn it on back, hold sleep button for 2 seconds.

IPOD Touch Wifi Safari seems to be faster than Iphone mainly because, it is without much of the add on / complex features. Both Iphone and IPOD Touch will have a free wonderful application to remote (App name Remote in AppStore) control Apple TV and ITunes using WIFI.

Switching off your wifi while playing game will boost your battery life span far alot more.

Hearing music in mp3 doesn’t drain much of your battery. Best to place it in sleep mode by pressing sleep button. The music will still continue to play even the IPOD is in sleep mode. It only turn off the screen. You can quickly toggle sleep mode to lock mode by tapping sleep button twice.

IPOD Touch does not have disk mode or what so ever. IPOD have a way of encrypting music with their album art and labels of the music – making application like iphonebrowser unable to locate the music whereabouts. But you can locate, backup and restore music easily using this wonderful software called TouchCopy. Fastest way to get music to your IPOD – is by using automatic cd ripper ability to rip your cd to mp3 and automatically sync to your IPOD Touch. I LOVE THIS FEATURE

The screen is scratch proof – I’m serious about it. However, it’s a fingerprint magnet. As for the back metallic surface, is scratchable – but you can remove some of it using those car polisher.

You need to convert videos into mp4 format before it can be view in IPOD Touch. You can do this easily by download videora software here.

Last but not least, If you ask IPOD Touch owner, what is the difference between other MP3 / PDA device out there? They’ll tell you almost the same thing “I can’t really describe it…it a user experience and it’s FUN!”

Start Slide Show with PicLens Lite

Jailbreaking Ipod Touch is save nowadays, and you could always restore it back with iTunes. However, once you are jailbreaking it, you might want to do some research prior to that before actually doing it.

Look for,

Latest Jailbreak software such as ILiberty, Ziphone (during my time I was using Ziphone 3.0)

Make sure your Wifi is available at that time.

Get some FTP software (optional) or download Iphone Browser to connect to your Touch via cable. (You need this to transfer other files format to Touch other than ITunes). Touch does not have disk mode so, yeah it will not appear mounted as a USB drive in explorer.

Ok, looks like if you got all the above, you are all set to go. For Ipod Touch users, best to upgrade it to 1.1.4 firmware via iTunes.

Leave it connected (via usb) and iTunes syncing to it or just leave it with Ipod active. Quit iTune and start up your Ziphone 3.0

Click on JailBreak option. The process is automatic, during this time do not unplug your IPod or start iTune or anything to your system. Leave it as this. Off the screensaver crap from windows as well.

You will start seeing bunch of text appearing in your Ipod. It’s a normal process.

Once, Ziphone successfully penetrated the iPod system, a Zoro picture will appear in the screen. Still let the process run till Ziphone says’s it’s done.

If you failed or the Ziphone crashes or unfortunately, your iPOD freezes for too long, unplug it and restore it back to firmware 1.1.4 . Make a emergency boot hold HOME and your POWER button for 7 secs while connected via USB with ITunes. ITunes will detect IPOD needs restoring. Then, Jailbreak again.

If you do successfully jailbreak it, the ipod system will return to locked state, and as usual slide the slider to unlock it. You will see installer and Ziphone’s blog appearing there.

Follow the guide here, to get your base setup properly. http://www.ipodtouchhacks.com/ipod-touch/detailed-instructions-on-how-to-jailbreak-114/

For me, BossTools is optional, is just relocating the fonts to give you more space for your IPOD. I only need a IPOD for reading ebooks, text and play some GBA emulator games. My case I have enough space for that.

Now, this is the part which is most frustrating. The net is full of old information regarding firmware jailbreaks, which are confusing at times. During installing package, best to leave your pod connected to your pc usb (wifi download and install can take alot of power). Goto Settings, set Auto-Lock option to NEVER. Autolock kills the wifi connection sometimes and you wont’ be able to install things properly.

Notice : You will have a bug because you JailBreak with Ziphone, which is you can’t use file browser tool to access your IPOD. In Installer, add source. http://i.unlock.no make sure is all small capital and you wifi available. If you do this correctly, you should be able to see you source added a category called Unlocking Tools.

Once, doing that proceed to Install tab and All Package, look for Ziphone iBrickr Fix. Sometimes, the server is overloaded with people requesting downloads and you might not able to access it. If that happens, reset the installer, hold HOME key for 7 seconds till it pops out to the springboard later, try again. Once you do that and package is installed.

For those, using iPhone Browser and have installed ZiPhone iBrickr Fix, congratulations you have access to your IPOD via cables.

GSPHONE 2.0.0 (GBA Emulator for IPOD/IPHONE)

If you are thinking of playing emulator in this IPOD. Heed my warning! DO NOT create folders using IPHONE browser, this is the main reason why you get into permission and save problem in the first place.

IPHONE browser creates folder under root ownership (GSphone needs the ROMs folder under mobile owner & root is NOT the same as mobile owner thats why your chown fails). This guide is for people that uses Ziphone 3.0 ; 1.1.4 jailbreak and has created folders with IPhone Browser.

If you already did, delete those folder – backup those roms somewhere first. What you need is a Mobile Finder and a terminal(VT100 terminal emulator)

Set your Mobile Finder settings to view Show Hidden Files, Show “..” Entry, and System File Access. This will open up all folders for Finder to traverse.

Now we only need, to create a special folder for our GBA Roms with the correct owner and permission. Goto terminal. You gonna have to make these folders yourself. In terminal, traverse to the var/mobile/.

View where is your current folder terminal is in by command ls. You should be in mobile folder by default. ls should return you Library/ only.

To create Media folder to store your GBA roms, type command mkdir Media

Traverse inside Media folder. Type cd Media

Create ROMs folder. mkdir ROMs

Traverse inside ROMs folder. Type cd ROMs

Create GBA folder. mkdir GBA

Use mobile finder to check the permission and each of these folders to 755. Click modify when folder are selected to see the permission (make sure they belongs to mobile owner). 755 means this Owner get Read/Write/Exec. Group and Everyone gets only Read/Exec. Check all the new folder you created.

Once, done. Head over to Iphone Browser and refresh var/mobile folder. Upload your gba files to GBA folder. Your GSPhone should be able to save state now.
