Windows 7 Update Failed Loop Problem

I been wanting to blog this for quite sometime. About a month ago, I faced this strange problem related to my windows 7 update keep failing during startup, then it returns to the last restore state. However, there’s nothing wrong my hardware or anything though. After a while, the updates keep failing on startup and tries to patch itself on shutdown thus, it creates an endless cycle of updates.

It seems this is a uncommon problem but, I’m just gonna write this down and share with you guys.

Later I found out that the reason this happens (I suspected) if windows tries to patch the same module over multiple update files. e.g. updating of same service over 3 updates files. In other words, the 2nd patch is patching what the first patch does.

The work around for this is simple,

Just goto windows update, select the recommended updates. Select ONLY ONE update to apply starting from the lowest and apply only that patch / update. Repeat this step until all recommended patch / update is implemented. You should be able to resume your Windows update smoothly after this small hickup.
