Papago M8 Iphone GPS App

I wanted to write about my findings about this iPhone app called Papago M8 – which is comprises of a GPS application for Malaysia and Singapore map. I noticed this app, was pretty good but, the support for the app especially the FAQ and the user manual needs to be updated.

Although this is a good app to use and helps me navigate accurately across Klang Valley, I do encounter a few problems with it.

  1. This app is not 100% written by native iPhone therefore, the app is sluggish even with iPhone 4 especially on the interface swipe part. However, thankfully the map update for gps navigation is acceptable on my end.
  2. Some may noticed that, on initial loading of GPS papago system, the map suddenly points to somewhere near KL. Please do not panic (haha – I noticed that, because I had a seperate papago system that behaves that way as well), the system needs time to locate the satellite and resync your location. Just take the iphone and run the app outside your house – walk around a bit let it sync the location.
  3. The third findings will be the most annoying implementation ever, which is – the sound volume system. A lot of you may noticed, that papago do not have settings for sound and at times, you will noticed that the sound in the app is way too soft? I took me quite a while to figure this out. It turns out the app is using your Ringer Master Speaker to play the sound. In IOS4, once you are in an app, you can adjust the app sound volume individually without affecting the master ringer volume. However, papago uses the master ringer volume which mean your iPhone’s master volume ( the speaker volume of your incoming phone call ). Turning volume (press +) during the app is running makes no use and will not increase the sound of the app. However, to increase the volume of the papago app, just exit the app and (press +) to increase the phone master volume. Make sure you are not in silent mode too. (see pictures below)

Figure 1.1 : Increasing the volume in app, won’t fix the volume problem.

Figure 1.2 : Increasing it here the springboard (main) menu will increase the overall app sound.

I hope this article help some of buyers buying this app, this is indeed one of the most “expensive” app I bought on iTunes. Hope they shaped up their app in the future. Winking smile
