Aptana IDE - AJAX/Javascript IDE

aptana_studio_black_250x Have you ever tried picturing an IDE that support scripting complex javascript with intellisense and code complete that provide rich details about DOM and other goodies?

Well you can stop dreaming about it, and start getting one for FREE. Introducing Aptana IDE. A open-source IDE available for downloads which works in multiple platforms including Windows, MAC and Linux.

I personally like this IDE to do development from scratch because, I always prefer an IDE environment with a steady rather than installing multiple developer browser plugins just to do debugging of complex Javascripts.

Don’t get me wrong, sometimes I do use a handy lightweight editor to do minor edits - which is what an editor is good for but, IDE is much preferred tools for heavy development from scratch. Is like typing a huge document in notepad as preferred to using Word processor where - IDE resembles a word processor that is.

To get a latest copy of these freeware Javascript IDE, head towards http://www.aptana.com/download and get a copy of Aptana Studio, they do have professional version which is for hardcore Aptana users but the Studio remains free. They also have Jaxer an Apache embedded to help Ajax developer to script without having to install any web server.

You will also need to download Java Runtime Environment (J2SE) in http://www.java.com to get started with Aptana IDE.

I like using Aptana to script spry framework coupled with Adobe Air and create my very own Adobe Air applications. It was fun scripting in it at least, you don’t have to do so much code guessing scripting Javascript.

For those scripting under LCD and having afraid of visual problem do visit this blog article on setting up your Aptana editor to use a proper fonts for scripting as it will help ease the viewing of codes. I’m currently using either Cambria of Windows Vista or Lucida Sans Typewriter Regula given free once you installed J2SE.
